The Process of Sound Insulation Testing in Liverpool

Before initiating sound testing, our team meticulously prepares the room where testing will occur, acknowledging that the building’s condition can significantly influence test results.

For airborne tests on separating walls or floors, our team places a loudspeaker in the source room, which produces a high sound level. A level difference is then recorded in the receiving room, either directly above, adjacent, or below. This difference is standardized to a reference value, producing a single number that can be compared to a performance standard.

For impact tests on floors, a standard tapping machine is placed in the upper room. The sound pressure level in the receiving room, directly below the source room, is then measured. A specific reference value for impact pressure level is used, yielding a single number—the impact result—that can be compared to the performance standard.
