Sound Insulation Testing for Residential Buildings
For residential buildings, we adhere strictly to Part E Building Regulations Sound Insulation protocols and conduct meticulous tests on finished wall and floor structures. Before initiating sound testing, our team ensures that the room is prepared meticulously to guarantee accurate results.
Our company vision is simple
Types of Sound Testing in Buildings
Airborne Sound Insulation – This test evaluates insulation against sound, such as speech, transmitted through the air.
Impact Sound Insulation – This test assesses the effects of impacts, like footsteps, on the floor structure.
Our goal in each test is to meet, and whenever possible, exceed specific performance standards.
The Process of Sound Insulation Testing in Liverpool
Before initiating sound testing, our team meticulously prepares the room where testing will occur, acknowledging that the building’s condition can significantly influence test results.
For airborne tests on separating walls or floors, our team places a loudspeaker in the source room, which produces a high sound level. A level difference is then recorded in the receiving room, either directly above, adjacent, or below. This difference is standardized to a reference value, producing a single number that can be compared to a performance standard.
For impact tests on floors, a standard tapping machine is placed in the upper room. The sound pressure level in the receiving room, directly below the source room, is then measured. A specific reference value for impact pressure level is used, yielding a single number—the impact result—that can be compared to the performance standard.
Extending Beyond Residential Properties
Our expertise encompasses a diverse range of building types, including commercial spaces such as offices, schools, healthcare facilities, and factories.
For managing agents of buildings, we provide testing that generally falls outside the scope of the Building Regulations. Typically, we assess the quality of the floor finish both before and after testing. It is noteworthy that floor finishes are not considered when testing under Building Regulations sound tests.
